Pauri Wala Shiv Mandir
Pauri Wala Shiv Mandir is renowned as the second stairway to heaven (Swarg Ki Dusri Sidi). According to legend, Lankapati Ravana performed penance to Lord Shiva and beseeched him for immortality. Lord Shiva responded by instructing Ravana to ascend five steps to heaven in a single day, after which he would attain immortality. Ravana constructed the first step at Harkipaidi in Haridwar and the second step at Pauriwala, leading to the establishment of Pauriwala Shiv Dham. Subsequently, Ravana built the third step at Churdhar and the fourth at Kinnar Kailash. However, due to eye strain, he was unable to complete the construction of the fifth step.
Pauri Wala Shiv Temple is situated on Kala Amb road, approximately 7.6 kilometers from Nahan Town in the Sirmour district. Nestled amidst dense forests, this exquisite temple holds great significance. The shivling present here dates back to the Treta Yuga. Merely beholding the shivling in Pauri Wala Shiv Mandir yields the same spiritual benefits as performing the Ashwamedha Yagya. It is believed that Lord Shiva himself resides in this shivling within the temple of Mahadev. Each year, the size of the shivling diminishes, resembling a grain of rice. This mythological pagoda stands as one of the oldest and most prominent pagodas in the country. The devotees every wish is said to be fulfilled by visiting this shivling. A grand fair is organized here on the occasion of Shivratri, attracting devotees from far and wide who come to seek blessings and have darshan.
