RENUKA JI
Renuka lake is located in the Sirmour district Himachal Pradesh.It is the largest natural lake of Himachal Pradesh. This lake is situated at a distance of 40 km from Nahan,the headquarter of Sirmour district. This is a very beautiful lake.Which is about 2.5 km long and half a km wide.Its elevation is 672 meters above sea level and the lake covers a circumference of about 3214 meters.The shape of this lake is like a sleeping woman.

Renuka Lake is also said to be a holy place of pilgrimage.The residents here tell different stories about the origin of Renuka Lake. Renuka lake is dedicated to mata Renuka Devi, Who was the wife of sage Jamadagni and mother of Lord Parashurama.According to the legend, sage Jamadagni and mother Renuka resided on the Jamu Peak. Jamadagni got a cow named Kamadhenu as a boon. A demon named Sahastrabahu killed the Sage Jamadagni to get that cow and tried to kidnap Mother Renuka.To escape from the demon, Mother Renuka jumping into Ram Sarovar. Which is now know as Renuka Lake.

Every year 10 days after Diwali (October-November) a huge fair is organized at Renuka.This fair is dedicated to Mata Renuka. It is celebrated as his Amrita.It is said that Lord Parashurama visits his mother on this day.There is another pool near Renuka lake which is called Parashuram Tal. It is dedicated to lord Parashurama.During this fair, along with Parashurama the palanquins of other deities are also kept decorated.All the deities are bathed in the holy lake and after bathing they are installed in the temple.This fair is an international fair.Thousands of devotees from all over the country participate in this fair.The inauguration and closing of this fair is done by the Chirf Minister and Governor of the state.
Temple :- There is also a beautiful temple of Mata Renuka and Lord Parashuram on the banks of the lake.
Wildlife sanctuary:- There is also a wildlife sanctuary near Renuka Lake . This sanctuary is apread over an area of 400 hectares. One can see animals like Nilgai, Asiatic lion and Himalayan black bear here.
Voting:- Voting on this beautiful lake can enjoy its beauty very closely.There are several votives along the lake that can be rented.
Jamu peck:- This peak is at an altitude of 8km above the lake.On seeing the lake below from this peak, This lake looks like the body of a sleeping woman.
